Sugar Bowl - National Championship (2004)

Are you kidding me? 50 years since my alma mater, LSU, had won a national championship in football. And then they get to play it in my hometown, only 80 miles from said alma mater's campus. And then they actually win it. Wild Dog Digital has a good gallery of this magical weekend, too.

  • There's a jackass in every crowd. This one supports the aquarium with a Mardi Gras flair (beads on the step-up)
  • This original Rodrigue (of Blue Dog fame) was sitting in the window of his French Quarter gallery.
A native of Lafayette, Louisiana, Rodrigue painted this picture of Mike the Tiger set in the swamp as a fundraiser for the one of only two live bengal tiger mascots in the country (Memphis is the other). • Some frat bruddahs having a few before the game. Seems like we've been in this situation before. We have many times... except the fact that it was during regular-season losses.
  • A jam-packed Bourbon Street prior to game time, not an unusual sight. The real star of the picture is the top of the Hibernia building in the far distance - lit in LSU's colors.
  • Before the game even started, we already had our opinions.
  • NOPD using high-tech electronics in cop car to play solitaire.
  • I run into Leon Touzet at the Olde Absinthe House on Bourbon Street.
